The Sultanpur(Hindi: सुल्तानपुर Urdu: سلطان پور ) City and the District have a same name. The District is situated on the banks of Gomti River.
It is said that this place was founded by Kusa, son of Lord Rama.
The headquarters of the district is the Sultanpur town. The district can also be called agrarian area as agriculture is the main occupation of people there.
The climate of Sultanpur is semi-arid with very hot summer and equally cold winter season. During the summer months i.e.May-June, the maximum temperature goes beyond 44 degrees Celcius and in winter months of Dec.-Jan. it is around 3-4 degrees.
